Knit-Wit

Around this time every year, when the temperature hangs in the 30′s, I get the compulsive urge to knit. Last week I promised that I would share a few of my most recent projects and I have three to share along with links to their patterns. When I first began to knit, I use to buy books for patterns but I found that to be wasteful when I only used one or two. So now I search the internet for patterns and was able to find all of these below. The best part is that they are all FREE! Awesome, right? So, let’s get on with it.

The most recent project I finished last night is this cute newsboy hat. What can I say, it’s super comfy and fits like a charm. Now, for those of you that might attempt this pattern, it is a little challenging, so I wouldn’t recommend it for a beginning knitter.

The next project is a checkerboard lace scarf that I finished about a week ago. This one also takes a little skill but mostly some precise counting. I found this out the hard way when I was trying to count my stitches and watch Inglourious Basterds, which as we all know has a lot of subtitles.  I got this pattern from the most precious blog, The Purl Bee. They feature all sorts of knitting, crocheting and sewing projects. Note that for this pattern I used a beefier yarn to make a thicker scarf that would be sure to keep my neck warm.

Last, is this sweater I knitted Bowser back in December. You might remember the sweater I knitted for him last year. Well, he was still a puppy at that time and of course he grew out of it. So, I whipped this up super quick. To get this pattern you need to register on the Lion’s Brand website but it’s worth it for the pattern. Just click this link to create an account and the site should direct you to the pattern.  This pattern also includes a collar and a tiny pocket on the back of the sweater, but I didn’t knit those things because they really weren’t necessary. This is the only time of the year we dress Bowser up, so he’s pretty hesitant to put on sweaters. But with this one he took to it in no time and wags his tail every time it comes out of the closet.

Well, I’m off to knit a beanie for Derek. We’re suppose to get 6″ of snow Saturday morning so I better get started.
