Derek got me this set of miscellaneous letterpress wood type for Christmas. I love how the wood showcases the warm hues of brown created by layers of ink that have stained the wood.
Lately, I have been trying to decide what to do with them. I took them out the other day just to play around with them. Derek got a kick out of watching me arranging the wood type while laying on the floor. He said that I looked just like a child playing with wooden blocks. Then we had a discussion about how our children would definitely get a set of wood type to play with instead of those boring wooden blocks.
Above is my attempt to spell out RageHaus. As you will notice, my set did not contain any A’s so I had to make due with a 4 and an upside down V.
I would love to take all of the letters and do a collage that I could hang in the studio and run prints off of. Unfortunately, a collage wouldn’t give me the freedom of rearranging the letters or using them elsewhere. My other idea was to use a glass display table that would contain them but also give me the freedom to print with them as I wish. Either way, I know that I have plans for these little guys.
